What happens to your Disclosure?

The Disclosure certificate is what you and your employer or the umbrella registered body will receive in order to make a suitable recruitment decision based upon the information supplied in that certificate together with all the other recruitment checks in relation to your role as a volunteer, minister or employee.

When the CRB issue your Disclosure certificate one copy will be sent to you at the address you gave on the form. Another copy will be sent to the CAS.

Where there is a clear disclosure the verifier or other nominated person will receive a standard letter from the CAS stating that there is nothing contained in the disclosure to prevent them working in the role for which they applied.
The remaining paperwork including the CAS copy of the Disclosure will be stored for 5 months and within 6 months will be shredded through a confidential waste service.
You should keep your Disclosure safe. It should not be lent or photocopied. You may show it to other recruitment bodies but you may still be required to obtain a new one for a new position or role.

What if there is something on your disclosure?

The first thing to happen will be that we will write to you to ask whether you can confirm the contents of your Disclosure. You will be given ten weeks to respond, as we do not want to delay dealing with these matters.
In the meantime the Director of CAS will raise in an anonymous way with someone in your church body the issues which are causing concern in order for an initial assessment to take place. This assessment will be concerning whether this matter will be a clear yes – that you are OK to work in the chosen role, whether you may be a clear no and if there are some other issues they wish to call a panel to consider.
Once you, the applicant, has responded and confirmed the contents then the full assessment for the purposes of recruitment can take place with your letter or other submissions forming part of the assessment with the church representative or panel.
In some cases the matter is still considered by a full panel despite there being a clear decision in order to consider the wider pastoral implications of the situation. All the member bodies of CAS have a similar assessment and pastoral approach to such decisions.
