
About CAS
The Churches' Agency for Safeguarding (CAS) is a Registered Body of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and an ecumenical membership organisation used by Christian churches and organisations across the UK to make safer recruitment decisions in relation to children and vulnerable adults through the CRB and Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS).
CAS currently processes over 20,000 CRB applications annually for both paid workers and volunteers and also providesinformation and advice to members on effective safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
WHAT WE PROVIDE MEMBERS
• Support with obtaining disclosure of convictions and other relevant information from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), the Scottish Criminal Record Office (CRBS) and other bodies holding similar records.
• Facilitating a forum through which members can communicate with each other on safeguarding policy and practice
• Representing the views of members in relation to safeguarding issues to UK Governments, CRB, CRBS and other public bodies
• Providing other services to support members with safeguarding issues including training, information and advice
• Assisting members with processing applications for VBS registration for employees and volunteers working in regulated activity with children and vulnerable adults. This service will commence on 26 July 2010 when the VBS registration process kicks-off. find out more
